MariaDB is an open-source project that has evolved as a fork of the MySQL relational database management system. It is committed to maintaining strong compatibility with MySQL, allowing it to seamlessly replace MySQL with identical library binaries and precise matching of MySQL APIs and commands. This version of MariaDB also incorporates the XtraDB storage engine, which serves as a replacement for InnoDB. Additionally, it introduces a new storage engine called Aria, designed to support both transactional and non-transactional data operations.
