The Apache HTTP Server Project represents an ongoing endeavor aimed at developing and maintaining an open-source HTTP server. This server is specifically designed to operate seamlessly on contemporary operating systems, encompassing UNIX and Windows. The core objective of this project is to furnish a secure, efficient, and adaptable server that seamlessly delivers HTTP services in accordance with current HTTP standards. It’s noteworthy that the Apache HTTP Server, often referred to as “httpd,” was first launched in 1995. Since April 1996, it has consistently retained its position as the most widely used web server on the Internet. Furthermore, in February 2020, the project celebrated its 25th anniversary and operates under the umbrella of The Apache Software Foundation.
